In a post shared on social media, Korra encouraged people to pay attention to how their partners behave during difficult moments, particularly when they are vulnerable, frustrated or facing conflict.
She also stressed the importance of recognising patterns in a relationship rather than holding on to someone’s potential, while noting that partners’ reactions to each other’s success can reveal a lot about the relationship.
Among the lessons she listed were the need to understand how power is exercised within a relationship, protect personal vulnerabilities and avoid losing oneself in an attempt to keep a partner.
Korra also emphasised that love alone cannot sustain a healthy relationship.
Her 10 lessons were:
- Watch how they treat you when you’re vulnerable or incapable.
- Pay attention to who they become when they’re frustrated.
- Notice whether their love brings you peace or anxiety.
- Watch how they handle conflict and accountability.
- Never lose yourself trying to keep someone.
- Pay attention to how they react to your success.
- Believe patterns, not potential.
- Understand how power is used in the relationship.
- Never ignore what they do with your vulnerabilities.
- Love alone is never enough.
Reflecting on her experience, Korra said her marriage taught her not only what she wants in a partner but also the kind of person she refuses to become simply to keep a relationship.
“My marriage didn't just teach me what I want in a partner. It taught me who I refuse to become just to keep one,” she wrote.
